Luxury: Color Therapy Massage Tubs

Holistic wellness practitioners have been using color therapy as a treatment for various ailments for years, but the availability of soaking tubs fitted with colored light sources is relatively new, and just catching on.
Sheldon Malc, showroom manger at Davis & Warshow, a luxury kitchen and bath supplier with showrooms in Garden City and Farmingdale, says, “Color therapy is legitimate. Green and blue, for example, are very relaxing colors. But red and yellow might be used in the morning to help you wake up and get going because they are colors that stimulate.”
To achieve the maximum benefit, most people bath for about twenty minutes, said Malc, who noted that the term “chroma therapy” is also used interchangeably.
To minimize risk from water coming into contact with the electrical system, modern color therapy soaking tubs such as those from Kohler use fiber-optic components that eliminate wiring around the tub and electrical fixtures inside.

A weather-sealed low-voltage generator is placed underneath the built-in cabinet of the tub, away from water, to generate the light. Controls either at the tub or on a remote allow you to change the color and intensity of the light. Some models are programmable and can go through a sequence of colors, and also stream pressurized water for hydrotherapy at the same time.
Malc noted that a Kohler color therapy tub is on display at the Davis & Warshow in Farmingdale, and interested parties can experience first-hand how the system works. Photos: Kohler
