Modern, contemporary sinks add looks and function as the heart of the home.

Sheldon Malc knows sinks. Sure, he knows waterfilters and garbage disposals, too, but sinks are his forté. As director of showrooms at Davis & Warshow—one of the oldest kitchen supply houses in New York City, with showrooms in Farmingdale and Westbury—Malc is responsible for bringing in the products that customers want, and helping them find products that work in their home.

“People in general know what they want,” says Malc. “But it’s up to us to zero in on the exact product. Many times people want a faucet for their window sink. It’s important to get one that is the correct height. If it’s too tall, it will interfere with the opening of the window.

”Contemporary sinks, at least for the moment, are the hot seller, with the most vibrant brushed stainless steel the most popular finish, and polished chrome not far behind.

And people are choosing pullout faucets to minimize counter-space clutter and to complement these modern designs. But not all pullouts are the same, explains Malc, and some customers are choosing cafe- style pullouts over full-size offerings.

In fact, some of these smaller designs are so concealed within the faucet, it’s hard to notice they pull out at all.
