Mix Learning with Earnings
A relaxing home office can reduce job stress during and after business hours.
The problem with most offices in the home is that not very much planning ever goes into their design and construction. In order to make sure your home office is all business during the day and ready for study and entertaining during the off-hours, a key principle should be followed.“
An inviting home office starts with the warmth of home, yet the practicality of an office,” begins Silvana Pironi, who with her husband Angelo, own and manage Long Island-based Pironi Homes.
“In the case of this home office, which we built for a Gold Coast home, the owners wanted something warm, something cozy. They knew they also wanted a library with two walls of bookcases on each side of the fireplace, and the option to store office equipment and supplies without making the room look like an office.
”The solution was to add deep base cabinets that also accentuate the custom mahogany trimwork, especially the fluted columns which tie into the crown molding. Decorative corbels support the fireplace mantle, and a cream-colored marble completes the hearth.
To soften the room further, oak floors were stained using a Philippine mahogany finish to provide contrast to the darker mahogany trim and paneling.
“Warm colors are more relaxing, for working and reading,” says Silvana. “And it’s important to consider the lighting in the room too. This home had natural light coming in from one side, but we added several types of lights during the installation. That way, if you want to just put the light on your workspace, you can do so with spot lights to get the light you need, but you don’t have to light the whole room and loose that beautiful natural light.”
